Welcome to the homepage for the National Science Foundation(NSF) International Research Experience for undergradute Students(IRES) 2010 program. This program takes place in Beijing, China and is crucial to building US-China relations. The importance of this program is so that undergraduate students in China and the US can gain experience with each-other's cultures, with a goal of enhancing the abilities of both parties involved in the areas of collaborative research. This is an important tool to have in today's global economy, and as such is an invaluable asset.

UCR Tsinghua University

This program is sponsored by the NSF and involves students from the University of California, Riverside campus (UCR) and Tsinghua University(TU). The leading professor for this program is Albert Wang. This prgram is in its third year of a three year agreement between UCR, the NSF, and TU. This year's program recruited four undergraduates from the University of California system, but it is open to applicants from other universities as well. This program spans several weeks of training for the selected students, six weeks in China for the duration of the research experience, and culminates in a presentation of the results of the research in the Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR). The training for the program takes place in the Laboratory for Integrated Circuits and Systems at the UCR campus. The Chinese potion will be hosted at TU, located in the sprawling metropolis of Beijing.

Engineering undergraduate students in good academic standing are encouraged to apply for this program. Female and minority undergraduates are strongly encouraged to apply for this program. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents. For further information about applying, see the how to apply page.
