Author: David Dai

Today, we witnessed Beijing in heavy rains. The sky was dark in the morning which caused us to wake later than usual. Isaac missed breakfast and I almost missed it. Because of the rain I had to buy an umbrella right after breakfast then rushed to the lab. Everyone else just rode the bike in rain. On the way, I almost got into an accident with another biker because the road was slippery and packed with bikes. It was soaking ride. In the end Isaac and Blim all got their cloth soaked.

We performed RTP on the silicon wafers we cut yesterday. Rapid thermal process heats a piece of silicon wafer to high temperature in seconds then slowly cools down to normal temperature. The wafers changed color after the temperature treatment. It is used for thermal oxidation. After RTP we apply a lay of PT (Platinum) coating. This process is done by another machine which takes several hours.

With Isaac and David looking on, Cody operates the machine that measures the microscopic valleys in the surface of a wafer.
