We visited the 2008 Olympic Park today, with our host student Nop. The highlight of the trip was visiting the Bird's Nest. This stadium was the main venue for the Olympics, although a number of events were held elsewhere (including some swimming events at Tsinghua University!). The stadium was massive, and they have a number of large screens throughout the building that plays a repeating montrage of dramatic video footage from the Olympics. It must have been very exciting to be a participant in such a grand stadium.

Afterwards, we went to the nearest food venue for lunch: McDonalds. The Chinese version consists of filling out your order on a order sheet, then pushing your way to the front of a massive mob of people to try and place your order. The total cost for the five of us came out to 200 RMB, which is slightly cheaper than in the US.

It rained some, but mostly the sky was filled with a heavy mist.
